Logan Landing is Officially Open!
On May 31, 2025, hundreds of curious people joined the Genesis Land team to celebrate the grand opening of our newest SE Calgary community, Logan Landing—and boy did we celebrate in style! The fun-filled afternoon featured horse-drawn carriage rides, live performances, family-friendly activities and the unveiling of several beautifully crafted show homes built by Cedarglen Homes, Genesis Builders Group, Partners Homes and Sterling Homes.
We’re thrilled with the event turnout, and deeply proud of what we, in conjunction with our builder partners and other collaborators, have accomplished so far in this exciting community.
“Logan Landing really is a jewel,” says Peter Jensen, a senior development manager at Genesis Land. “We know this community will be a place that future residents are proud to show off to their friends and family.”
In this Q&A, Jensen, who has been involved in the creation of Logan Landing from the start, takes a look back at how the community came together and gives us a sneak peek at what’s coming next.
Q. How long has Genesis Land been working on getting Logan Landing to where it is today?
A project like Logan Landing takes years to plan and prepare for development. Genesis Land purchased this parcel about 12 years ago with the vision to create Calgary’s next riverside community. This special area holds so much character and opportunity for families, but even with the grand opening, we’re only in the early stages of Logan Landing. We’re very excited for how we will be expanding the neighbourhood and revealing the views, the access to the Bow River, and that strong connection to nature that so many crave.
Q. What have been the most notable milestones, in terms of development?
For me, some of the biggest highlights came before the lands were even approved for development. Participating in the Indigenous engagement process was an honour and a privilege. A series of meetings with Treaty 7 Elders and Knowledge Keepers, who shared their experiences and their ancestors’ experiences, really helped our team understand how important this land was to past generations—the significance of the river, the flora and the fauna. Before we initiated the groundbreaking, the land was blessed in a traditional pipe ceremony. It really was one of the most powerful and significant milestones that can’t be expressed enough.
Q. What other steps stand out for you?
The approval process is very rigorous, with numerous river studies, geotechnical testing and hydrological reports to inform how the community takes shape safely and responsibly. It’s surprising how much of the heavy lifting is done before any pipe is laid or a road paved. It’s very rewarding to have years of hard work and effort result in approvals for the Area Structure Plan, Outline Plan and Land Use.
Q. What’s next for the community?
Logan Landing has 10 phases of various sizes and product types. Phase 1 filled up very quickly and Phase 2 is scheduled for the sidewalks and roads this summer. Phase 3 is nearing approval, and we are considering installing the deep utilities this fall to get a jump on the construction to deliver more homes to meet the demand. These three phases will add about 640 new homes for Calgary families.
Planning the Logan Landing Village Core will be another focus over the next few years. This area will be perched on the valley escarpment, with views of the mountains and river, and it will bring retail, services, restaurants, multi-family homes and other spaces. Logan Landing Village Core will be a true community hub.
Q. In your view, why should people be excited about Logan Landing?
I think future residents should be excited about the community’s open spaces, especially along the river and escarpment. Logan Landing boasts over 24 acres of parks, as well as a school site. In addition, there are 115 acres of environmental reserve and, within the valley, a 200-foot-wide natural open space, over half a mile long, is planned along the riverbank, where pathways will lead to neighbouring communities as part of the city’s greater pathway network. The Genesis Land team has carefully and thoughtfully planned this community to be a place where people want to live.
