On September 16, 2025, a group of women from Genesis traded their office wear for hard hats and tool belts as they joined Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta’s Women Build Day. Hosted at 2081 Bayview Drive SW in Genesis Land’s Bayview community in Airdrie, the event brought together women from across Southern Alberta to lend their skills, strength, and spirit to building safe, affordable homes.
This event was especially meaningful for us at Genesis Land because Bayview is one of our own communities—making the day not only about supporting Habitat’s mission but also about investing in the future of a neighbourhood we’ve carefully planned and nurtured. Watching homes take shape in Bayview was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do: to create places where families can grow, connect, and thrive.
From early morning safety orientations to the satisfying sound of hammers and drills, the energy on site was contagious. With 10 volunteer spots filled by Genesis Land and Genesis Builders Group team members, our group spent the day working side by side with women from different industries, proving that when women come together, they can build more than just walls—they can build confidence, connections, and community.
Tasks for the day ranged from finishing work to cabinetry and basement framing. For many of us, it was a chance to try something new and step outside our everyday roles. “There was this incredible sense of empowerment in learning skills I’d never tried before,” said Olga Mardones, Marketing Manager at Genesis Land. “What made it even more special was knowing we were building in Bayview—our own community. It felt like giving back in the most direct and personal way.”
Women Build is more than a volunteer day—it’s a movement that encourages women to step into the trades, grow their skills, and see themselves in industries where they have historically been underrepresented. For Genesis Land, supporting this initiative was a natural fit. Our mission has always been to create communities where people can thrive, and this day allowed us to contribute not just as developers, but as neighbours.
The day was also a reminder that community is built by people coming together with a shared purpose. Media coverage of the event captured the excitement and dedication of the volunteers, underscoring the impact companies can have when they give back.
As the sun set over Bayview, the progress made was more than physical—it was personal. For the families who will one day call these houses home, it marks the beginning of a new chapter. For the women who volunteered, it was proof that when you pick up a hammer, you’re not just building walls—you’re building a stronger future.
