Do you have a neighbour who needs a little extra help with snow clearing? Or perhaps you know someone who has been helping out your community with shoveling? This is why Calgary’s Snow Angel program is one of the best things in our city.
Keeping sidewalks free of ice and snow can be very challenging for older adults and people with limited mobility. Through Snow Angels, you are encouraged to be a good neighbour by clearing snow for those who need assistance. [City of Calgary]
How to be a Snow Angel:
- Keep an eye out for neighbours who need help removing snow, and offer a hand to help out.
- Alternatively, you can adopt a sidewalk and keep clearing it when it snows.
If you are not in a position where you can be a Snow Angel for someone else, you can recognize someone who is doing an amazing job.
How to recognize a Snow Angel:
- Nominate a Snow Angel online using this form.
- Call 3-1-1 to nominate a Snow Angel
- You can also send a letter to the City of Calgary, letting them know about your Snow Angel:
The City of Calgary
Seniors Services – #104
P.O. Box 2100, Station M
Calgary, Alberta T2P 2M5
Attn: Snow Angels
By doing this, you and your Snow Angel will be each entered into a draw for a prize.
If you nominate your Snow Angel online, please include your home address in the first information box that appears. Then, if you know the name, address and phone number of your Snow Angel, include them in the next information boxes. If you don’t know your Snow Angel’s name and/or address, we’ll send you a recognition package addressed to “Snow Angel” for you to give them. [City of Calgary]
And schools are also encouraged and invited to take part in the Snow Angel program, which helps kids complete volunteer hours in the community while getting some exercise outdoors. You can register your school to participate in the program, online.
