5 Reasons to Get Active this Summer

Summer is in full swing and it’s coming in hot, literally. We hope you’ve been enjoying your summer, getting outside when you can and spending time with the people you love. Being able to spend time outdoors has been great for staying active this summer, especially for people who prefer not to be in crowded fitness rooms. Whether you’re biking, running, hiking, bootcamp-ing or just walking, staying active is so important for your overall health.

We’ve been having a great time in the community at our fitness classes at Bayview Park every Tuesday night. If you haven’t been yet, there are still 4 more weeks to come and sweat with us and instructors from Genesis Place. If you need more convincing, here are five reasons to get active this summer:

Feel More Energized

The increase of blood flow and oxygen to the muscles when you exercise gives you that burst of energy. Not only while you’re working out but even after you’re done. Who said you only need coffee to wake you up?

Get Better Sleep

Staying active can help improve your sleep and even help you fall asleep faster. Studies show exercise helps improve slow wave sleep (aka deep sleep), where the brain and body have a chance to rejuvenate. Exercise can also help to stabilize your mood and decompress the mind helping you fall asleep faster.

Increase Cardiovascular Endurance

Regular activity helps strengthen your cardiovascular system and blood circulation. It strengthens your heart muscle and improves your blood’s oxygen carrying capacity while also improving your breathing and muscular contractions.

Decrease Risk of Illness

Exercise builds up and improves circulation of our white blood cells, which we need to

fend off harmful bacteria that cause us to get sick. Even if we do get ill or injured, the improved circulation can also help us heal faster.

Stay Focused

When you work out regularly and eat healthy your blood flow is improved and your hormones are at optimum levels, which helps increase your ability to concentrate.
