2020 Alberta Winter Games

Today is the day! The 2020 Alberta Winter Games, hosted by the city of Airdrie, officially kicks off this evening and runs until February 17th. The next three days will be buzzing with excitement as over 1,850 top athletes ranging in age from 11-17 gather to compete in a variety of sports, from Gymnastics and Ringette to Hockey and Judo.

The Alberta Winter Games provide the opportunity for many of Canada’s future elite athletes to experience their first taste of competition at a provincial level, making the events especially exciting for the athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators alike. The sporting events are held in 15 venues across Airdrie and in nearby communities. There are also many arts and culture-based activities to take-in during the games.

Alberta Winter Games Opening Ceremonies

Grab your family and/or your Valentine or Galentines and join us on for Live on Main! Take in the opening ceremonies on the big screens and then head over to the City Hall parking lot to enjoy interactive activities for kids of all-ages including live art, fire breathing dragons, DJ entertainment and warm beverages and snacks! The ceremonies will be televised live on Global TV.

The City Hall parking lot will also be transformed into a live site offering interactive opportunities for kids of all ages, including personalized projection lighting, live art, fire breathing dragons, DJ entertainment and beverages and snacks!

Where: Main Street in Airdrie
Time: 6:00 – 9:00PM
What to wear: Bundle up! This event takes place entirely outdoors.

Family Skate Party

Take part in some outdoor winter fun designed especially for you and your family at this free Family Skating Party hosted by the Alberta Winter Games. In addition to skating, enjoy music, singing, bonfires and photo opportunities!

Date: Monday, February 17
Where: Nose Creek Regional Park
Time: 1:00PM – 3:00PM
What to wear: Warm outdoor clothing from head to toe! Don’t have skates or a helmet? No problem! Kidsport Skate Shake will be on site to lend out skates and helmets.
Ticket cost: Free!
